Hyaluronic Acid (Durolane) Consultation
Consult with an expert orthopaedic surgeon for powerful and long-lasting pain relief and/or bracing.
Service Description
Dr. Luba, our orthopaedic knee specialist will assess your knee through a physical examination and review of x-rays and MRI (if available). If appropriate, a Hyaluronic Acid injection or knee brace will be prescribed. If you already have a referral and prescription from your healthcare provider, you can still directly schedule your injection appointment with us. For bracing inquires, if you already have a referral and prescription from your healthcare provider, you can directly consult our knee brace fitting specialist. Hyaluronic Acid injections, also known as Viscosupplementation, gel injections, or Durolane, have significantly advanced the management of degenerative and arthritic knee problems in the past fifteen years. Hyaluronic acid is a natural component found in your synovial fluid -- the thick liquid between your knee joints -- which acts as a lubricant between your knee joints. It is also present in other parts of your body like your eyes and skin. These injections are safe, with no long-term negative effects, and are sometimes combined with cortical steroid injections. In the knee, hyaluronic acid serves as an anti-inflammatory agent, shock absorber, and lubricant. It reduces pain and swelling while creating a more favourable environment in the knee joint. Most importantly, it has chondroprotective properties, which minimize the wear on your knee joint surfaces and articular cartilage, improving the longevity and function of your knee and reducing the likelihood of future surgery. Note: We offer this injection at a significantly lower cost ($450) compared to other clinics in Ontario. There are no additional fees or taxes. The injection is paid for at the time of the procedure, which can be done during the initial consultation. Many extended healthcare or third-party insurance plans reimburse part or all of the injection cost. We accept payment in certified cheque or cash, and an official receipt will be provided for insurance or medical tax credit purposes.
