Our Story

Since 1993, the Canadian Knee Institute has been at the forefront of knee treatments, catering to a diverse range of individuals, including top athletes and those seeking everyday well-being.

 

Our commitment is to provide individualized, comprehensive, and science-backed solutions to your knee pain. No surgery required. Our offerings include knee brace consultation, prescriptions and fittings, functional training for fitness and sports, knee pain management, exercise, rehab, and hyaluronic acid (Durolane) injections.

Working together, we prioritize the long-term function, restoration, and protection of your knee. Our team includes an orthopaedic surgeon with over thirty years of knee-specific expertise, who has served as the physician for the Canadian National Track & Field team at the Olympic Games. Additionally, we have a skilled Certified Athletic Therapist specializing in injury rehabilitation through manual therapy, modalities, and exercise.

Meet The Team

Dr. Robert Luba

Consulting Physician

​

Dr. Robert Luba, MD FRCSC FAAOS, is a registered orthopaedic surgeon with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, licensed to practice in the province. He is on staff at the Scarborough Health Network, Department of Surgery.

 

Dr. Luba completed his medical school training at the University of Manitoba and his Orthopaedic residency at McGill University in Montreal. His elective and fellowship opportunities were at renowned institutions such as Oxford University, Cambridge University, and the University of Toronto.

​

During his career, Dr. Luba has made significant contributions as the medical director for Canada's National Track & Field team. He has been physician in charge at prestigious events including the Olympic Games, World Track & Field Championships, Commonwealth Games, and various international meets. With a wealth of experience, he has successfully conducted over 20,000 knee operations.

​

Presently, Dr. Luba specializes in non-surgical approaches to knee problem management. He would like to support your journey to a healthy, pain-free life.

Helen Kim, CAT(C)

Director of Therapy​

​

Helen Kim is a Certified Athletic Therapist with the Canadian Athletic Therapist Association. She earned her Bachelors of Science in Health and Kinesiology, along with her Certificate of Athletic Therapy, at York University. Helen has an impressive background, working in collegiate sports at Toronto Metropolitan University, professional athletes as a part of the Toronto Argonauts CFL team, and national-level athletes at Canadian Sport Institute Ontario. 

 

As the Director of Therapy, she strives to provide high-quality care and solutions to help you progress to a pain-free, stronger, and active life. Helen’s approach is to look at the whole picture to address the areas of improvement, not just your symptoms, and treat them with the most evidence-based solutions for your needs. With a desire to elevate, her goal is to continually grow her knowledge and skills so that you can be assured of your care at the Canadian Knee Institute.

Deborah Scott

Office Coordinator

​

Debbie has worked in the Scarborough area for family physicians since 1982. She went on to obtain her Registered Practical Nurse certificate in 1985, and came to work at 1371 Neilson Road for another specialist in 1992.

 

After 25 years, that specialist retired and Debbie joined the Canadian Knee Institute and Dr. Luba's practice. She has been an incredible and valuable addition to both teams. She coordinates the office, assists in patient relations, and looks forward to welcoming you to the clinic!
